This project was very interesting because the wonderful Edward Gorey drawings already existed, which meant that new text had to be written to go with the drawings rather than the other way around. My brother, James Donnelly, was commissioned to write the text; I received a co-writing credit for helping to plot how Little Red Riding Hood could take charge and be the hero rather than simply get eaten by the wolf and rescued by a grownup. (As a hint, the greedy wolf was partial to poppy cake and valerian jam, and Little Red had a strong pitching arm.)
